Dak Prescott wants to win championships like Cowboys' Roger Staubach

Dak Prescott's focus isn't on rewriting the Cowboys' record book but bringing the franchise championships instead.

When reporters asked Prescott about surpassing Roger Staubach, a Pro Hall of Famer and two-time Super Bowl champion, in Cowboys' passing touchdowns, he said, "let me know when I have more championships or wins."

Prescott isn't dismissing the accomplishment. It's him acknowledging how he understands a lack of postseason success can cloud his legacy.

Stats matter, but it's no secret that championships measure quarterbacks. When the NFL released its All-Time 100 team in 2019, Dan Marino was the only quarterback selected who failed to win a league championship.

Another Cowboy great and HOFer, Troy Aikman, never threw 20 touchdown passes in a single season. However, he won three Super Bowls, so he landed on the NFL's Top 100 list in 2010.

Prescott may have better stats, but he'll sit a notch below Cowboy greats until his 1-3 postseason record improves.

"You gotta prove it when you're the QB of the Dallas Cowboys that you're the star. We've seen the Dallas Cowboys come up short time and time again," said ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

The critique shows why Prescott is adamant about more postseason success.

Per Oddschecker, the Cowboys have the fourth-best Super Bowl odds, increasing Prescott's desire since this is one of his best chances to win a championship.

"This is a special team," Prescott told NBC Sports Melissa Stark following a 54-19 win over the Colts.
