Dak Prescott would need to make 'significant strides' to play Week 6 vs. Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys have been without starting quarterback Dak Prescott since he sustained a fractured thumb in Week 1, requiring surgery.

While the Cowboys hoped Prescott could make enough progress in his rehab to return for next week's huge NFC East matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, it seems he'll need a little more time before he's back under center.

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Prescott would need to make "significant strides" to return to the Cowboys' lineup for Week 6's clash with the Eagles.

Earlier this week, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott would need a whole week of preparation before he plays again, which officially ruled him out against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

Before Sunday's game against the Rams, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Prescott was making "real progress," adding that the quarterback told him soreness and swelling in his thumb were subsiding. Prescott will reportedly have an X-ray on his surgically repaired thumb on Monday.

Prescott seems in good spirits, asking Fox sideline reporter Tom Rinaldi on Sunday, "How's my grip feel?"

In Prescott's absence, Cooper Rush has taken the lead at quarterback. Rush finished 10-of-16 for 102 yards in the Cowboys' 22-10 win over the Rams. He's thrown for 839 yards through five games with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Cowboys are 4-0 with Rush as the starter and currently sit tied with the New York Giants at 4-1 for second place in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles (5-0), the only remaining undefeated team in the league.
