Dallas Cowboys release former Pro Bowl safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

The Dallas Cowboys confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they have released veteran safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

Clinton-Dix, 27, put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Cowboys in April that could've been worth $3.75 million. By releasing him today, however, the club is on the hook for only $2.25 million of that deal.

It's believed the groin injury that sidelined safety Xavier Woods isn't anything to worry about before Dallas takes the field versus the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13:

Clinton-Dix completed first-team reps earlier in training camp sessions, but he apparently fell out of favor with the Dallas coaching staff and dropped down the depth chart to the point where he became surplus to requirements.

Nevertheless, logic suggests the one-time Pro Bowler won't be a free agent for long. While with the Chicago Bears during the 2019 campaign, Clinton-Dix tallied two interceptions — one of which he took to the house for a score — a pair of fumble recoveries, five passes defended, and 78 total tackles.

According to Bryan Perez of NBC Sports Chicago, Clinton-Dix ranked 30th among all safeties in Pro Football Focus ratings at the conclusion of the season.
