Dalvin Cook reports to Vikings training camp

Dalvin Cook was reported to be considering a holdout in hopes of getting a new deal, but the running back has reported to training camp with the Vikings, ending speculation about Cook missing the season.

Cook was one of the top running backs in the league last season, running for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Vikings. But he is only scheduled to be paid $1.331 million this year, as he is still on his rookie deal. For that reason, along with conflicting reports from Cook's agent and Vikings' coaches, there was a belief that Cook might hold out to try and get a bigger deal.

Now that Cook has reported, coach Mike Zimmer said that he will make Cook a captain of the team for his outstanding play last season.

"I’m gonna make him a captain because of the things that he represents here and the way he’s gone about his business and works," Zimmer said during an appearance KFAN with Paul Allen.

With Cook reporting this year, he will be able to become a free agent after the season. However, the market for running backs is complicated, as several big-name runners have been unable to land big deals with their current teams or in free agency. And teams remain hesitant to sign running backs, as the few who have gotten expensive paydays often fail to live up to their contracts.

Will the Vikings be willing to pay for Cook to stay in Minnesota? Another big season as the team's lead running back would certainly help.
