Dalvin Cook says he'd be a perfect fit in this team's offense

Although recent reports suggest that free-agent running back Dalvin Cook could end up in New York, it’s still tough to fathom Cook passing up playing for his hometown Miami Dolphins.

In fact, during a recent interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Cook explained that of the teams currently pursuing him on the open market, he believes he would thrive in an offensive system like that run by the Dolphins.

"Yeah, it's an exciting situation to go into when you got guys that can stretch the field on the outside," Cook said. "I think that defense is pretty solid to me. Tua [Tagovailoa], when he's out on the field, they got a winning a record. As a running back, you look for a certain scheme and I know the scheme that I'm good in, and that's outside zone, and that's what the Miami Dolphins run. So it's like, you know, it'd be a perfect fit. And the roster, like you said, speaks for itself."

The Dolphins were one of eight teams last season that averaged less than 100 yards rushing per game (99.2) and they tied for the sixth-fewest rushing touchdowns (12) in the league.

Miami’s plan to fix the RB position appears to be throw everything on the wall and see what sticks. The team drafted Texas A&M back Devin Achane in the third round and re-signed Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr. and Myles Gaskin.

While the trio combined for 1,309 yards in 2022, none scored more than three touchdowns and Mostert was the only one with a run longer than 30 yards.

The Dolphins have six running backs on their roster, but none of them are as explosive as Cook. And none have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season, which Cook has done the last four years.
