Damar Hamlin asked who won Bills-Bengals game after awaking

Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center gave an update on the status of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Thursday morning, and he has made remarkable improvement in the past 24 hours, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero — so much so that he was even able to ask doctors who won Monday's game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals after he awoke on Wednesday night.

Hamlin collapsed on the field during Monday's game after suffering cardiac arrest and has been in the ICU in critical condition ever since.

Dr. Timothy Pritts said on Thursday that Hamlin is awake, responding to doctors' commands and is able to communicate with them through writing. He is not yet able to speak, however, due to still having a breathing tube.

Pritts said that Hamlin expressed "surprise" that he was not awake and with the world over the past two days.

Pritts said doctors told Hamlin that he won the game because he won "the game of life."

He also added that Hamlin asking that question shows that "not only is he home, but that the lights are on."

The question was also asked as to whether or not Hamlin could one day play football again, but Pritts said it is entirely too early to talk about that. The focus now is on getting him to be breathing on his own, getting him stronger and getting him back home.

Hamlin was a sixth-round pick by the Bills out of the University of Pittsburgh during the 2021 draft and was a starter on their defense this year.

The entire sports world has been showing support for Hamlin over the past two days, while a two-year-old GoFundMe account that he set up to raise money for needy children has seen millions in donations over the past few days

As for Hamlin's question on who won the game, the answer was nobody, as it was suspended with the Bengals leading 7-3 with under five minutes to play in the first quarter and never completed.
