Dan Orlovsky examines embarrassing play that demonstrates Zach Wilson's struggles

As the dust settles from the New York Jets' loss to the New England Patriots, it's even clearer how much the Jets -- and QB Zach Wilson in particular -- struggled.

In fact, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky highlighted one play that shows the issues in New York run deeper than the Jets struggling to find ways to cater the playbook to Wilson's strengths.

The play in question found the Jets with three wideouts and a tight end in the formation. As Orlovsky points out, based on the routes each receiver ran it would suggest Wilson didn't know how the play was supposed to develop.

The timing of his pass meant Wilson believed his receiver to the right was running an in-route toward the middle of the field. Instead, WR Denzel Mims ran a post route and the receiver on the opposite side of the formation, Elijah Moore, ran an in-route.

After the game, Wilson received criticism for not taking the blame for the offense scoring three points. When asked whether he felt the offense let the defense down, he replied, "No."

Wilson was 9-of-22 for 77 yards.

The Jets' defense allowed three points -- the Patriots' TD came on a punt return --  and allowed 297 total yards. Patriots QB Mac Jones was sacked six times.

Wilson, 23, has a lot of growing up to do if he wants to make it as an NFL QB. A lack of both accountability and preparation are surefire ways to accelerate one's path out of a starting job.

In his defense, his lack of understanding of the playbook may be the reason he appeared so adamant in brushing off the blame for Sunday's loss. Ignorance, as they say, is bliss.
