Dan Quinn agrees to become Cowboys defensive coordinator

Following a disappointing end to a dreadful season, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy parted ways with both defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula last week.

His search for Nolan's replacement didn't take long.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn has agreed to become the new Dallas defensive coordinator.

Atlanta fired Quinn in October following the team's 0-5 start. He accumulated a 43-42 record with the Falcons and guided the franchise to Super Bowl LI, where his team blew a 28-3 lead and lost to the New England Patriots.

Before his time with the Falcons, Quinn made his name as a successful defensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks. In his two years holding that gig, Seattle led the NFL in yards and points allowed.

Theoretically, the Dallas defense can only improve coming off the team's 6-10 season. Per ESPN stats, the Cowboys were responsible for the NFL's second-worst run defense and surrendered 158.8 rushing yards per game under Nolan.

While the Cowboys acknowledged the story on their official website, they hadn't yet confirmed Quinn's appointment as of early Monday evening.
