Daniel Jones doesn't sound confident about return to Giants

Eligible for free agency this offseason, Daniel Jones' future as New York Giants quarterback is up in the air.

Speaking with reporters a day after the Philadelphia Eagles knocked the Giants out of the postseason, Jones didn't sound like a guy preparing to sign a new contract tomorrow.

"I'd love to be back, but, you know, we'll see," Jones said. "There's a business side to this thing too."

Jones repeatedly professed his love for being a Giant. But Jones also reflected on his time in New York in the past tense, telling reporters, "I've really enjoyed my time here." When asked about the timeline for talks with the Giants to continue, Jones said he and the team needed to "digest" the season and the playoff loss to Philadelphia.

"We'll cross that bridge when we get there," Jones said. "It's all very fresh from last night, so I think that's been what we've talked about up to this point."

Earlier this month, Boomer Esiason reported that Jones and the Giants were closing in on a contract extension. However, Jones denied the report's validity.

The Giants are in a tough spot. Jones did improve this season. But was it enough to sell the Giants on committing to him long-term?

Jones posted career bests in completion percentage (67.2), passing yards (3,205), and passer rating (92.5) while throwing only five interceptions, the lowest total of his four-year career. He also flashed potential with his legs, rushing for 708 yards and seven touchdowns. Though, in the postseason, the Giants saw Jones's good and bad sides. After looking like the future against the Vikings, Jones fell back to earth Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles, finishing 15-of-27 for 135 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception.
