If Aaron Rodgers leaves Green Bay, would Davante Adams do the same? Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have business to take care of this offseason outside of convincing Aaron Rodgers to return, but it does not sound like they are making a whole lot of progress.

Tuesday marked the first day that NFL teams could place the franchise tag on players. They have until March 8 to do so. Most star players would rather sign a long-term extension than play under the tag, which is almost certainly the case with Packers star receiver Davante Adams. However, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that there have been no contract talks at all between Adams and Green Bay since the end of the season.

Rodgers, who has yet to announce if he will retire, remain with the Packers or request a trade, mentioned Adams during his Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” The two have been one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in football for years, and it goes without saying that Rodgers would want Adams back in 2022 if the MVP decides to stick with Green Bay.

Adams, a five-time Pro Bowler, caught 123 passes for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021. He is said to be seeking an enormous contract. The Packers have serious salary-cap issues, although some of those could be resolved if they sign Rodgers to an extension.

There has been talk about Rodgers and Adams joining another team as a package deal, but the Packers are unlikely to let that happen. If Rodgers commits to Green Bay for 2022 and beyond, it’s a safe bet that the Packers will find a way to get something done with Adams.
