David Njoku's agent says TE 'would love' to sign long-term contract with Browns

David Njoku is heading into the final season of his rookie contract, and the tight end is looking to sign a long-term extension with the Cleveland Browns.

Njoku's agent, Malki Kawa, told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that his client "would love to be in Cleveland long-term."

Kawa added: "Obviously there's a lot of things that go into that. At this point, we're not even there yet. We're going to see how the season goes, and we'll sit with [general manager] Andrew Berry, who I have a really good relationship with."

The relationship between Njoku and the Browns appears to be much better now than it was last offseason. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in July 2020 that Njoku asked the Browns for a trade. He was coming off an injury-plagued 2019 campaign that saw him play in just four games.

His trade request also came shortly after the Browns signed Austin Hooper to a four-year, $43 million deal.

Njoku appeared in 13 games for the Browns last season, catching 19 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He also had five catches for 66 yards in two playoff games.

In May, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Njoku was "in a good place with the franchise." So, it's no surprise he's seeking an extension with the club.

The 25-year-old has 112 catches for 1,279 yards and 11 touchdowns in four seasons (49 games) in Cleveland. The Browns drafted him 29th overall in 2017.

It's unclear if Cleveland is interested in re-signing the veteran tight end.
