D.C. Attorney General suing Commanders, Dan Snyder, NFL, Roger Goodell

Washington, D.C. attorney general Karl Racine held a press conference on Thursday to announce that his office is filing a civil consumer protection lawsuit against the Washington Commanders, team owner Daniel Snyder, the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell.

His office announced on Wednesday that it would hold a major press conference but did not divulge the details until Thursday.

Racine said the team, Snyder and the league all colluded in covering up the workplace and sexual misconduct allegations against the organization.

He added that Snyder not only lied about the organization's hostile environment, but that he also participated in it.

His press conference was accompanied by four posters outlining the franchise's rebranding efforts and how they were used to deceive fans.

Said one of the posters: “Dan Snyder assured fans that he would fully cooperate with the investigation and the results could be trusted. That was a lie: He repeatedly attempted to interfere, and the fans could not trust results that were never made public. Because Snyder had a veto.”

The organization was fined $10 million in 2021 following an investigation into the team's workplace environment, but those results were made public.

Racine said the his office is currently seeking subpoenas and testimony under oath.

Following years of pressure to sell the team, Snyder announced that the team is exploring all options in terms of selling the franchise. Its value is estimated at more than $5.6 billion while the price tag could reportedly climb as high as $7 billion
