Deebo Samuel says only he, 49ers and his agent 'know the truth'

Things often change quickly in the NFL, and that is seemingly the case as it pertains to the relationship involving the San Francisco 49ers and All-Pro versatile offensive weapon Deebo Samuel.

On Tuesday, NFL Network's Steve Wyche said that the 49ers were "trying to get something done" regarding the 26-year-old in the final year of his rookie contract, but ESPN's Adam Schefter later claimed that "Samuel was the one that basically admitted he wanted to move on" and that the dual-threat talent was not rushing "to get a deal done" with his current employer.

ESPN's Jeff Darlington then dropped a bombshell when he reported Wednesday he'd been told directly by Samuel the receiver has asked the 49ers to trade him. Later, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport explained Samuel "is uncomfortable with how he was used in Kyle Shanahan's offense in 2021" and essentially wants a fresh start elsewhere after he tallied 1,405 receiving yards, 365 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns during this past regular season.

As David Bonilla noted for 49ers WebZone, Samuel took to Twitter, in a now deleted tweet, late Wednesday afternoon to tell the world only he, the 49ers and his agent "know the truth" about the situation.

“Reporters jobs is to make stories only people know the truth about situation is 49ers, [agent Tory Dandy], and Deebo Samuel."

While NFL insider Josina Anderson tweeted the New York Jets currently feel the 49ers won't trade Samuel unless they receive a "king's ransom" for his services, Connor Hughes of The Athletic added that San Francisco doesn't seem all that interested in trading its best offensive player ahead of the draft that begins on April 28:

For now, the truth is the 49ers still hold Samuel's rights until further notice.
