Deshaun Watson: Texans need culture shift, discipline

The Houston Texans finished off a disappointing season with a 41-38 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. After starting the season 0-4, which resulted in Bill O'Brien's firing, the Texans finished 4-12 under interim head coach Romeo Crennel. 

It's unclear if Houston plans to name Crennel the franchise's next head coach and has already interviewed several candidates for its head-coaching vacancy. Star quarterback Deshaun Watson outlined what he is looking for in a new head coach on Monday. 

"We just need a whole culture shift," Watson said, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "We just need new energy. We just need discipline. We need structure. We need a leader so we can follow that leader as players. That's what we need."

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Texans CEO Cal McNair recently asked Watson for his opinion regarding the future of the franchise in terms of the next head coach and GM. It won't be surprising if Watson plays a major role in the team's coaching decision. 

The Texans requested an interview with Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus on Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Eberflus is in his third year with the Colts following seven seasons as the Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach.

Houston also has interviewed former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell and former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. 

Eric Bieniemy, Brian Daboll, Josh McDaniels and Todd Bowles are among the other coaches available for the Texans to interview. It's unclear if they have plans to meet with any of those candidates. 

The Lions, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers also have head-coaching vacancies, so there will be a lot of competition among teams for the best available contenders.
