Details emerge from Richard Sherman's arrest for burglary domestic violence

The NFL community was shocked to learn Wednesday that free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested and being held with a bail request denied at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle following an alleged burglary and domestic violence incident.

ESPN has released more details about what reportedly occurred early Wednesday morning.

A police spokesman told ESPN a person placed a 911 call from a residence at 2 a.m. PT claiming an adult male family member who did not live there was attempting to force his way into the home. Police met the suspect outside of the residence upon responding to the call, and the male "fought with police" before he was arrested and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Nobody at the residence was injured, and the male was later booked, per the report. TMZ Sports added Sherman allegedly crashed a vehicle into a cement freeway barrier before he made his way to the home, an incident which is being investigated by the Washington State Patrol. TMZ also reported a police K9 unit was used to apprehend the suspect assumed to be the cornerback.

Sherman is a three-time First-Team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection who explained back in March that his free-agency experience was going in "slow motion" as younger players first signed contracts and extensions.

It's too early to know if he'll face discipline through the NFL's personal conduct policy regardless of his status with any team.
