Green Bay Packers linebacker Rashan Gary Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Packers' joint practice with the New Orleans Saints fans included quite the scare as outside linebacker and defensive leader Rashan Gary entered the tunnel with training staff at his side.

Rashan Gary’s injury occurred shortly after practice got underway. It seemed to occur after some contact. He was brought into the tunnel and off the field by the training staff immediately. He pointed to his shoulder right away and after stretching out and adjusting his rotator cuff, Gary rejoined practice and was a full participant for the rest of it.

Rashan Gary is one of the more menacing outside linebackers in the league and this was put on display last season when Gary compiled 43 total tackles and 9.5 sacks, as well as 2 forced fumbles. The defense consists of Gary, Preston Smith, De’Vondre Campbell, and Kenny Clark. All of whom look to build off of the stellar 2021 campaigns they had. The Packers defense seems to be finally coming together.

Rashan Gary’s injury scare comes at the wrong time however. Bruising offensive tackle Trevor Penning stands across him during joint practice with the Saints. Penning is known to be aggressive, and sometimes dangerous when he engages in blocks. Penning has been a concern for many teams who have to face him this year, especially after he was kicked out of practice for going “too hard” and starting fights.

While Penning is not the cause of Rashan Gary’s injury scare, his name is one to watch out for all year. His actions in training camp surely won’t be all fans hear about him this year. Gary and the Packers defense looks great thus far in camp as they aim to dominate offenses this season.
