Veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin likely will have to wait another week before he debuts for the Detroit Lions.

After not having played a single snap of football since January, the veteran is working his way to get into football shape.

Detroit's front office wanted to add a veteran leader who is capable of sharing his vast amount of knowledge and experience in the NFL with the young members of the roster.

Dan Campbell expressed that the team does not want to put Irvin or any player in a position to suffer an injury or not be fully prepared to contribute, when their number is called to be part of the active roster.

"I mean look, I think he’s going to need just a little bit more, being totally honest with you," Campbell told reporters. "Man, he’s moving good, he looks pretty good. We want to be smart about this, and let’s see where he goes. But certainly, I think just getting in football shape is important. I don’t think you want to throw anybody out there and then you set them up for disaster with an injury or something when they’re just not quite ready. So, I don’t see him being up this week.”

Donovan Peoples-Jones was inactive against the Chargers, as he was dealing with a rib injury that occurred just prior to being traded to Detroit.

After participating in practice for the majority of the week, it is expected the ex-Wolverines wideout will debut against the Bears, giving Ben Johnson's offense another option in the passing attack.
