The Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph became a fan favorite last season. His three interceptions against Aaron Rodgers vaulted him into the hearts of many fans. Now, he is making waves again at practice. Joseph wore a shirt that said “Free Jamo” after practice on Thursday.

Detroit Lions Kerby Joseph Wears “Free Jamo” Shirt

You can see the photo of the shirt here. It refers to fellow second-year player Jameson Williams who was suspended six games by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy. While he did not gamble on any NFL games, he did engage in gambling activities while at team facilities which led to the suspension. Many people have spoken out about the hypocrisy as the NFL is pushing people to gamble on their games. They are partnering with gambling sites to make a ton of money and yet punish their players for using the companies to gamble on games outside of the NFL.

Tough For Williams

Williams is in a tough spot right now. He missed most of last season as he was still recovering from an ACL injury. The Lions were hoping that he would be 100% for this season but now will have to begin the season without him. For a second-year player, reps are the best thing for development. The limited reps that Williams is getting could drastically stunt his growth. The good news is that Williams will only miss six games and has the talent in order to learn quickly. The Lions are hoping this is the case as they spent a lot of draft capital to move up to get him.

Kerby Joseph made his stance on the Jameson Williams situation clear. He thinks the rule is bogus and Williams should be reinstated. The gambling policy is one that desperately needs review but for now, the players will have to endure the punishment.
