Did Joe Theismann leak new name of Washington Football Team?

It was learned in early January that the NFL franchise currently known as the Washington Football Team would unveil a new name and logo on Feb. 2. That's still the plan, as far as is publicly known, but a former Washington quarterback and all-time great may have spoiled the announcement ahead of time.

As Mike Florio explained for Pro Football Talk, Joe Theismann, who believably would have some inside information regarding this topic, spoke with Damon Amendolara of CBS Sports Radio on Monday and heavily suggested the team will be known as the Washington Commanders moving forward.

Matthew Paras of the Washington Post later heard from Theismann, who seemingly tried to pour cold water over his previous comments.

For what it's worth, there were multiple hints and, perhaps, even intentional teases in January that Commanders had been selected as the team's new name. As of Tuesday morning, CNN's Brandon Griggs had Commanders as his "betting favorite" among the known contenders of names, one of which will ultimately be attached to the franchise on Wednesday.

Ideally, this rebrand can't go much worse than what the Cleveland Guardians of MLB offered fans in November.
