Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys understandably were profoundly disappointed following the team’s heartbreaking — and controversial — 26-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. According to one eyewitness, the Cowboys quarterback was so distraught that he broke down in tears upon meeting his mother after the game.
Romo, who spent a majority of his youth growing up in Burlington, Wisc., a little over 100 miles out of Green Bay, reportedly met his mother outside Lambeau following the loss and “broke into tears,” according to Marcus Mosher, who covers the Cowboys for the website Cover 32.
Mosher posted the below photos of Romo.
While the photos do not actually show Romo in tears, the quarterback is clearly — and understandably — bummed out about the outcome of the game. Whether or not Romo really wept is purely speculative and subject to the interpretation of one eyewitness, the photographs do show that he was pretty bummed out.
His comments to the media after the game demonstrated just how demoralizing the loss to the Packers was for Romo.
“Just to lose in general is disappointing,” Romo said, via ESPN.com. “I have played long enough to understand that you don’t have these kinds of teams on your side to play in these games consistently. When you have that opportunity, you want to take advantage. It just doesn’t feel very good right now because you feel like you let one slip away and that you had an opportunity with a good ball club that had a chance to win this thing.
“That is going to eat at you for a while.”
Romo played well in Sunday’s game, going 15-for-19 for 191 yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, he demonstrated throughout the season that he is able to rise to the occasion and doesn’t turn into a liability during crunch time, something the Cowboys and his fans should view as an encouraging sign heading into next season.
