Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Did Steelers OC Matt Canada redeem himself in 'SNF' win?

The Steelers offense had by far its best showing in the team's 23-18 win against the Raiders on "Sunday Night Football." Was it enough to change the minds of those wanting Pittsburgh to fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada?

Canada has been highly criticized for his play-calling, most recently being exposed by NFL analytics for tipping his hand to opposing defenses. However, the Steelers were able to move the ball pretty well in Week 3.

Pittsburgh had 333 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers on offense. It's a performance that was necessary after averaging the second-worst yards per game (247) through the first two weeks of the season.

Second year QB Kenny Pickett also had a career night, throwing for multiple touchdowns in the same game for the first time in his career.

The Steelers success on offense could be chalked up to having a favorable matchup against a Raiders defense that allowed the 11th-most yards per game (355) heading into the meeting.

However, if the offense can continue looking the way it did, fans should once again be optimistic for the 2023 season. Although it is still a small sample size and Canada should not be left off the hook quite yet.

Overall, Canada's play-calling improved and Pittsburgh seems to believe in him after moving him to a more prominent role working with Pickett. But he still had some questionable calls.

Either way, Canada's seat looks to be a little cooler a week removed from the team's matchup against the Browns, when loud chants of "fire Canada" echoed throughout the stadium.

The Steelers go back on the road in Week 4 to face the Texans in a game Canada must replicate his offensive success.
