'Disappointed' Golden Tate apologizes to Giants teammates for outburst
New York Giants head coach Joe Judge benched Golden Tate for the team's matchup against the Washington Football Team for "effort and performance" issues following his "throw me the damn ball" outburst against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week prior.
The wide receiver spoke with the media on Friday about the incident, saying he was disappointed about being benched but understood that his actions had consequences. He also said he apologized to his teammates, coaches and general manager Dave Gettleman.
The former Pro Bowler hasn't had a great year. He's caught just 22 passes for 226 yards and has been targeted six times over his last three games. The Giants can move on from the veteran this offseason, but they'll take on a dead-cap hit of $4.7 million.
If he continues to be disgruntled, the Giants also could try to move him ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft in exchange for draft capital. New York was trying to move him ahead of this season's deadline but couldn't agree on a deal.
