Wide receiver DK Metcalf was one of the bright spots for the Seattle Seahawks last season despite missing the playoffs.
The third-year player from Ole Miss had 75 receptions for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns.
His lower numbers compared to his second season aren’t his fault, given how head coach Pete Carroll wanted to prioritize the run game.
However, he remains focused in hopes of getting a lucrative contract extension.
But aside from getting a massive payday, Metcalf has more things in mind when it comes to accomplishments.
He revealed one of his big goals in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks.
When Rooks asked if the Olympics is one of his goals, Metcalf responded, “Yeah, for sure.”
Rooks tried to confirm if it’s a legitimate target and not just for the sake of trying.
To which, Metcalf answered, “No, I’m not – no, I’m not just running just to run. I can do that on a track somewhere. I’m trying to go to the Olympics.”
Does Metcalf Have A Chance Of Making The Olympic Team?
Regardless of which NFL team he eventually plays for, the 2024 Paris Olympics will fit into his schedule because it will happen before the NFL season.
He can devote training for both athletics and football before potentially joining the United States Olympic Team.
But when Rooks asked Metcalf’s plan to make the cut, the wideout answered:
“Next year, I’mma start back training for it every offseason. Training for the 100-meter or 60-meter, whichever one I decide to do. And then in 2024, you’ll see me again.”
He missed the cut for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when he finished 15th out of 17 contestants in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Golden Games and Distance Open last year.
He had a time of 10.37 seconds which is a few milliseconds off the U.S. Olympic Trials standard of 10.05 seconds.
Even before training starts, Metcalf already declared that “it’s gonna happen,” pertaining to his 2024 Olympic stint.
