It was a forgettable 2021 season for the Seattle Seahawks.

They were the only NFC West team that did not make the playoffs and finished with a losing record for the first time since 2011.

The failure to keep their postseason streak going had football fans and experts predicting major shake-ups within the organization.

However, their 7-10 record isn’t bad, considering that Russell Wilson missed some games due to a dislocated finger caused by, of all people, Aaron Donald.

But it’s not only him that got bit by the injury bug as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared this tweet about wide receiver DK Metcalf’s recent operation.

Apparently, Metcalf was playing through a foot ailment all season long.

He was wearing a walking boot after a foot surgery that removed a screw from a previous procedure.

Rapoport described the operation as minor in nature, meaning that Metcalf will be back to full strength soon.

Despite that concern, the former Ole Miss standout was able to play through all 17 regular-season games.

Unfortunately, his numbers were not on par with his breakout sophomore season.

Playing Through Pain

Metcalf had a single 100-yard receiving game and it occurred early in the season against the Minnesota Vikings.

He finished the season with 967 yards, which is a far cry from his 1,303 yards in 2020.

Likewise, he also had the benefit of an extra game in 2021.

Take away that 17th game against the Arizona Cardinals and he would only have 909 yards.

Now on his way to recovery, Metcalf hopes that he can help reestablish the Seahawks’ contender status.

But it remains to be seen who the team’s starting quarterback will be.

If Wilson returns, Seattle can reclaim the playoff spot they’ve enjoyed for eight of the last ten seasons.

Meanwhile, Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will continue to terrorize opposing defensive backs once he returns to full strength.
