Does Cowboys' Dak Prescott care about being in MVP conversation?

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott has a different objective on his mind ahead of December than having his name mentioned in conversations regarding the season's Most Valuable Player Award.

"I’m about one goal, and it’s a big team goal, and I know if my name’s in there that means we’re playing well," Prescott said on Monday, as shared by Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "So, that’s great. But at the end of the day, we’re just trying to build. I mean being eight years into this thing, it’s about building and building and making sure we’re getting better and better each and every week and getting hot right when we need to be."

According to ESPN stats, Prescott ended Week 12 ranked second in the NFL among qualified players with a 75.3 adjusted QBR, a 107.4 passer rating, 23 touchdowns through the air and a 70.0% completion percentage on the season. Such numbers are impressive but may not be good enough to allow the 30-year-old to catch Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles in the MVP race.

As of late Tuesday morning, oddschecker listed Hurts as the betting favorite at +170 odds to win MVP. At that same time, Prescott was at +1000.

The 10-1 Eagles lead the 8-3 Cowboys in the NFC East standings, and Philly already has a win in hand over Dallas from earlier this month. The two teams next meet in Week 14 on Dec. 10.

"Regular-season numbers are great, but getting wins, that’s what’s most important," Prescott added during his comments. "At the end of the day, we’re trying to stack and keep growing this team to get better each and every week."

Prescott's next opportunity to build his MVP case will come when the Cowboys host the 6-5 Seattle Seahawks this Thursday night. Oddschecker had Dallas as a nine-point favorite for that matchup on Tuesday morning.
