Veteran NFL wide receiver Jordan Matthews is hoping a position change will jump start his career.

The seven-year veteran is transitioning to tight end this season. He's gained 15 pounds and is training with 49ers star George Kittle.

Matthews will work out for NFL scouts at the HUB football camp in San Diego this weekend according to Ian Rapoport. He'll be the most experienced player at the camp

Matthews has 274 receptions for 3,288 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career. A position switch could work, but the transition is much easier said than done.

Could a team like the Bengals be interested in Matthews?

Cincinnati signed tight end CJ O'Grady after his workout for scouts at the HUB football camp in April. If Matthews has a good showing, there's no reason why the Bengals shouldn't consider adding him to the 90-man roster—especially with C.J. Uzomah coming back from a torn Achilles.

Matthews was never an explosive wide receiver, but he should be able to win one-on-one matchups against opposing linebackers. Most position changes don't work, but this one has potential and the Vanderbilt product could extend his career.
