This has been a long time coming. All-Pro Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard is not happy about his contract situation and remained away from offseason activities as a form of protest.
With the Dolphins now starting training camp, one of the game’s best defensive backs took to social media on Tuesday and officially requested a trade from the Dolphins.
As you can see at the end of the post, Howard did note that he will be on hand during training camp as a way to avoid a hefty daily fine. It does not change the fact that he wants to be traded.
“Until that trade happens I am just here so I don’t get fined, and will handle myself like professionals do,” Xavien Howard wrote.
A second-round pick out of Baylor back in 2016, the 28-year-old Howard has morphed into one of the best cover guys in the league. He led the NFL with 10 interceptions in 2020 and also topped the league with seven picks back in 2018.
Howard is currently playing under a five-year, $75.25 million contract. In terms of average annual salary, he’s the sixth highest-paid corner in the NFL.
