The Miami Dolphins have named Anthony Weaver as their new defensive coordinator, the team announced on Saturday.

The Dolphins had been on the lookout for a new defensive coordinator since they parted ways with Vic Fangio last month. Fangio served as Miami’s defensive play-caller for a mere one season. Fangio went on to agree to become the new defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Weaver joins Miami following a three-season run in the Baltimore Ravens organization. He first joined the Ravens in Jan. 2021 as a defensive line coach and run game coordinator, which came on the heels of a one-season run as defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Houston Texans. He was promoted as an associate head coach in the following year, and he continued to also serve as Baltimore's defensive line coach.

Weaver garnered head coaching interest from the Washington Commanders and the Atlanta Falcons last month. The two NFC squads conducted in-person interviews with the defensive-minded coach. In the end, Washington opted to hire now-former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for the role, while Atlanta brought in now-former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to replace Arthur Smith.

Weaver is the third defensive-based coach to bid farewell to the Ravens over the past week. Now-former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was officially hired as the Seattle Seahawks’ new head coach on Wednesday, while now-former Ravens secondary coach Dennard Wilson reportedly agreed to fill the Tennessee Titans’ defensive coordinator vacancy.
