Dolphins OC says offense isn't limited under QB Tua Tagovailoa

Since being selected No. 5 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been under a microscope.

Many, including some teammates, have questioned his abilities, mainly his arm strength.

However, Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith says he's been "encouraged" and "extremely optimistic" by what he's seen from Tagovailoa during Miami's offseason minicamp.

Moreover, Smith doesn't seem worried about the Tagovailoa's arm strength, nor has it affected his ability to run the Dolphins' new offense.

"I wouldn't say that we're limiting ourselves in anything," Smith told SI.com's Alain Poupart. "He's actually been doing a great job of ..... every day presents different routes, different things we're trying to accomplish with receivers. So I would say that everything we've done so far has been extremely optimistic because there's certain things in our progressions and reads and his ability to move from throughout his progressions. He's been awesome for a guy just really being in the system for a month."

Tagovailoa played in 13 games last season, finishing with a 67.7 completion percentage, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions along with three touchdowns and 128 yards on the ground.

The Dolphins were 7-5 in games started by Tagovailoa last season.

Tagovailoa has gone 13-8 in 21 starts in two seasons with Miami, posting a 66.2 completion percentage, throwing for 4,467 yards, 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He's also rushed for 237 yards and six touchdowns.
