Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa day-to-day ahead of Ravens game due to finger injury

Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed this past Sunday's 17-9 win over the Houston Texans due to a fracture in the middle finger on his throwing hand.

Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores told reporters Tuesday that Tagovailoa is considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's prime-time game against the Baltimore Ravens.

"[Tua] is definitely making progress," Flores explained. "There's definitely discomfort. The swelling is down. It's getting better. There's progress from last week but there's still limitations."

Backup Jacoby Brissett filled in for Tagovailoa in Week 9 and completed 26-of-43 passes for 244 yards with one touchdown, two interceptions, a lost fumble and four sacks. While Brissett would start Thursday night if Tagovailoa doesn't receive the nod, the second-year pro would serve as the backup against Baltimore barring a setback.

Flores added Tagovailoa "wants to be out there," which is understandable considering the Dolphins were repeatedly linked with Houston Texans star signal-caller Deshaun Watson before the Nov. 2. trade deadline. It's believed Miami didn't complete a deal mostly because Watson is still facing 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints, but Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said shortly after the deadline that the franchise is "very happy with Tua."

Watson now cannot be traded until the new NFL year opens in March 2022.
