Dolphins set to get huge addition to defense

The Miami Dolphins defense is going to get a massive lift this week as All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been activated from injured reserve and will be set to make his team debut when they play the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Dolphins acquired Ramsey this offseason in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams, adding one of the league's best defensive backs to their secondary.

Ramsey has been sidelined so far due to a torn meniscus suffered in late July.

He is a potential game-changing addition to the lineup, as he can play a big role in solving the Dolphins' biggest weakness. Their defense. Specifically, their pass defense.

Entering Week 8, Miami ranks 27th in the NFL allowing 26.7 points per game, the highest number for any team currently in a playoff position. They are also surrendering an average of 233 yards through the air, a number that ranks 20th in the NFL.

Along with Ramsey's absence, the Dolphins have been without their other star cornerback, Xavien Howard, who did not play in this past Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Getting both of players back in the lineup will give Miami two outstanding cornerbacks to build their defense around.

Ramsey might still take some time to get back up to speed and back to 100 percent, but when healthy, he is one of the NFL's elite shutdown corners, having been named to each of the past six Pro Bowl rosters. He is also a three-time first-team All-Pro.

Miami acquired Ramsey from the Rams in exchange for a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long this offseason.
