Dolphins waive former Pro Bowl RB Jordan Howard

Sometimes, it's best to admit an experiment didn't work out and move on. That's what both the Miami Dolphins and veteran running back Jordan Howard did on Monday.

As Cameron Wolfe noted for ESPN, Miami parted ways with Howard in what coach Brian Flores referred to as a "mutual parting" when speaking with reporters.

Howard earned $4.75 million guaranteed on what was originally a two-year contract he signed in March. A club that claims the 26-year-old will be on the hook for the remainder of his prorated $1.75 million salary.

"A lot of respect for him and respect for the way he worked," Flores explained. "No ill will, just thought it was best for both parties."

Howard never found momentum during his brief stint with the Dolphins. He averaged a paltry 1.2 yards per carry on 28 attempts. He was a healthy scratch for three games before the Nov. 8 showdown at the Arizona Cardinals, where he was given an opportunity to shine with Matt Breida sidelined due to a hamstring injury. However, Howard finished that outing with 19 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and, ultimately, lost his spot on the depth chart to rookie Salvon Ahmed.

Ahmed led the Dolphins with 85 yards and a score in Sunday's 29-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Howard didn't play in the game.

The Dolphins acquired running back DeAndre Washington from the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline. Washington tallied two yards on two attempts versus the Chargers.
