The Miami Dolphins completed their second round of cuts on Tuesday, heavily focusing on splicing the wide receiver room.
Out of the four cuts it still needed to make to get to the league’s number by midnight Tuesday, three came from the WR room that originally featured 14 playmakers.
Isaiah Ford Gets Boot, Again
Isaiah Ford was the Dolphins’ first casualty, again unable to make the roster in his xx stint with the team.
Ford was drafted by Miami back in 2018, but not utilized that much compared to other receivers on the team. After a few seasons, he was traded to the New England Patriots at the trade deadline for a dud of a seventh-round NFL draft pick. That came because the Dolphins did not see him as a long-term contributor.
However, the Patriots released him before he appeared in a game for them and Miami scooped him back to its practice squad.
Injuries eventually re-elevated him back to the active roster where he appeared in a few more games.
Ford has not been one to make huge plays, in fact, he has not reached the end zone at all in his professional career. He has been used as a “move the chains” type of player in his 19 career NFL games played. Across those games, he has caught a total of 51 passes for 520 yards. In 2020, he made his first start with Miami and appeared in 10 games. He caught 28-of-44 passes for 276 yards.
He will now look for a new home.
Injured Robert Foster, Lynn Bowden Jr. Won’t Make 2021 Team
Additionally, the Dolphins also waived/injured wide receiver Robert Foster. He too has been given multiple one-year contracts with Miami but has never appeared in a game for the club.
He reappeared for a new stint with the team on March 18 and has seen the most success in his career come from his time with the Buffalo Bills. Foster originally signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2018, appearing in 30 games (three starts) in two seasons. He has 32 receptions for 642 yards (20.1 avg.) and three touchdowns in his NFL career.
Finally at WR, Miami has placed Lynn Bowden Jr. on long-term injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He is not eligible to return for the 2021-22 season.
Bowden was originally drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but traded before the season began. Bowden Jr. averaged 7.5 yards per catch with Miami last season.
OL Jermaine Eluemunor Onto Fourth Team
Finally, the Dolphins cut offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.
Eluemunor signed in June after coming over from New England, but didn’t pan out in head coach Brian Flores’ system, despite the Dolphins needing a little more depth.
He has spent time with the Patriots and Baltimore Ravens in four seasons and is a former fifth-round pick.
