Dont'a Hightower would be frightening in Green Bay

What if the Green Bay Packers decide to absolutely load up in the middle of their defense?

They already re-signed First-Team All-Pro De'Vondre Campbell to a five-year, $50M deal and drafted arguably the best inside linebacker prospect in Quay Walker in the first round of April's NFL Draft. But they still have $17M in cap room. What if the Packers considered bringing in another star linebacker? One that has played in the league for a decade and won three Super Bowls. One like Dont'a Hightower.

Hightower was a cornerstone in New England for 10 years before he became a free agent this offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler wants to play in 2022. Why not play for legit Super Bowl contender like the Packers?

Imagine a trio of Campbell, Walker and Hightower on the field in big moments. Opposing quarterbacks would be very worried about where those three are at all times.

Hightower has started 114 of the 117 games that he has played in while in the NFL. He was the anchor of each of Bill Belichick's last three Super Bowl defenses. The former Alabama star has recorded 60+ tackles in seven of 10 seasons and has sacked the opposing quarterback at least once in every single season. He also adds special teams value, which would be a great help to Green Bay special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. He is one of the better sideline-to-sideline players of this era.

Adding Hightower on a two or three-year deal would be a very solid move. The Packers have an elite defense. There are stars at every level. But former Pro Bowl CB Jaire Alexander, Pro Bowl DT Kenny Clark, EDGE Rashan Gary, MLB Campbell and S Adrian Amos (captain) don't have a Super Bowl ring. Hightower has three of them. Bringing that championship experience to another championship organization would be a great deal. Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry would have everything he needs to create a Super Bowl defense in 2022.
