The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided upon Doug Pederson as the newest head coach to lead the franchise back to greatness.

Or at least that is the plan.

Pederson heads to Jacksonville after taking the 2021 season off to sit back and reflect.

This came after a tumultuous finish to the 2020 season with the Philadelphia Eagles that saw him bench Carson Wentz and slide to a 4-11-1 finish.

Turnover is rampant in the NFL and Wentz is currently the starter for the Indianapolis Colts.

That means the former head coach and quarterback are officially rivals.

The Jaguars and Colts meet up twice a year and that adds even more intrigue to Jacksonville’s 2022 season.

A Strained Relationship

Pederson signed on with the Eagles in 2016 and the team used the No. 2 overall pick on Wentz.

They won the Super Bowl a year later in what marked a dramatic turnaround for the franchise.

Only it was Nick Foles who was under center in the big game.

Wentz continued to struggle with injuries and was knocked out of the game early in his only ever postseason start during the 2019 season.

That led the Eagles to draft Jalen Hurts in 2020, starting the downfall to the Pederson era in Philadelphia.

They now get to square off in the AFC South and there is already a rivalry in place, especially after the Jaguars eliminated the Colts from the postseason with a shocking Week 18 victory.

Pederson and Wentz do not seem to hate each other.

Ultimately, both were let go by the front office in Philadelphia.

But it was a shock to see the union fail so fast after a Super Bowl season in 2017.

Even though Foles was under center, Wentz did go 11-2 during the regular season.

Eagles fans may just do a double-take and wonder again what all went wrong if they tune into this AFC South matchup in 2022.
