Drue Chrisman had a rough final punt of the 2022-23 season that set the Chiefs up to advance toward another Super Bowl title with Patrick Mahomes.

That line-drive bullet, among other punts, prompted the Bengals to select Michigan punter Brad Robbins in this year's draft. Chrisman defined an average punter last season. According to Puntalytics, he produced 0.01 total punting EPA last season, ranking 19th leaguewide.

It'll be a second straight season in a position battle for Chrisman.

"Focus on your own job, and you know, just try to be the best person you can," Chrisman told reporters about the upcoming battle. "High water makes all boats rise, so you almost look forward to it. I never really had a competition in college. I feel like I became a better punter having a competition last year with Kevin (Huber)."

Huber is very familiar with Robbins after playing against him at Ohio State.

It's another wrinkle in the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

"We have a good relationship," Chrisman said. "I texted him after the draft you know, tell him, 'Congrats. Looking forward to the competition.' ... Darrin (Simmons) was pretty clear. You know, he doesn't beat around the bush. ... He called me after the draft, kind of just laid out what it was going to look like and, and yeah, he said, it's pretty much an open competition. ... May the best man win and I think that's as good of an opportunity as I could ask for."
