Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen will compete for Washington's starting QB job

It looks like Kyle Allen won't simply be Washington's backup quarterback. He'll actually have the opportunity to become the starter — if he earns it of course.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera fully believes that Allen and Dwayne Haskins will compete for the starting job, according to team staff writer Kyle Stackpole.

While Allen and Haskins may be relatively inexperienced, Rivera noted that Washington has no interest in going after free-agent QB Cam Newton and fully intends on riding with the young guns.

Haskins played nine games as a rookie in 2019, starting seven. He went 2-5 with a 58.6 completion percentage, 1,365 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. While he wasn't exactly ideal for an extremely young Washington team, he could improve greatly this coming season.

Allen is headed to his third season in the NFL. The 24-year-old has a 6-7 record with a 62.1 completion percentage, 3,588 yards, 19 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in his career. Quite frankly, his stats aren't too different than Haskins', but Allen does have a bit more experience.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out in Washington once training camp is over.
