Even though the Arizona Cardinals declined the fifth-year option of Haason Reddick’s contract back in 2020, recent reports suggest the Philadelphia Eagles linebacker could return to the Valley.
On ESPN’s show SportsCenter, senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler stated that Reddick could be moved before the 2024 season and believes the Cardinals are a potential suitor.
“The expectation league-wide is that Haason Reddick is moved at some point,” Fowler said. “Arizona could be a team to watch because [Cardinals head coach] Jonathan Gannon was with him two years ago in Philly. They had good production together. Arizona needs pass rushers.”
Reunion on the Cards?
Reddick was originally a first-round (13th overall) pick by the Cardinals in the 2017 NFL Draft.
As a Cardinal, the 29-year-old played 64 games (31 starts). Reddick grabbed 255 tackles, 20.0 sacks, 9.0 forced fumbles and defended 15 passes while with Arizona.
The Cards signed him to a four-year deal worth $13.4 million before Arizona did not pick up the option for 2021.
Then in the next offseason, Reddick signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers and started in all 16 games he appeared in. In his only season there, he snagged 68 tackles, 11.0 sacks and forced two fumbles.
After that contract expired, the Temple University product returned to his college’s city of Philadelphia as he signed his current three-year deal with the Eagles in 2022.
So far in his two years in Philadelphia, Reddick started all 34 regular season games. He had 87 tackles, 27.0 sacks and 5.0 forced fumbles.
With the Eagles, Reddick received second-team All-Pro honors in 2022, is a two-time Pro Bowler in back-to-back seasons and was in the running for the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year.
As reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, he claimed that Reddick has been allowed to seek a trade since February.
“Eagles All-Pro edge rusher Haason Reddick has received permission to seek a trade following another disruptive season featuring double-digit sacks,” Rapoport said. “The 29-year-old with 27 sacks over two seasons in Philly could land elsewhere.
The connection between Reddick and Gannon could play a key factor in a possible trade. Gannon was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator in 2021-22.
But with an elite pass rusher like Reddick available on the trade market, there will be plenty of interest from across the NFL.
