Eagles HC Nick Sirianni addresses 'Super Bowl slump'

Head coach Nick Sirianni suggested the fact the Philadelphia Eagles earned back-to-back wins after the Week 6 20-14 defeat at the New York Jets shows his club isn't dealing with any so-called "slump" related to this past February's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. 

"They hear it all the time—Super Bowl slump. All these different things," Sirianni told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated following Philadelphia's somewhat unimpressive 38-31 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. 'The Eagles aren’t playing as good as they should be.' Our guys just have blocked all that out. We have one loss that, it’s over, but we didn’t play a good game that game, and credit to the Jets for not letting us play a good game. I’m just excited for the team in the sense of, we don’t listen. We gotta hear it because we have to do media and all those different things. But it’s just been a daily grind." 

Some may feel the Eagles didn't notch many style points in the seven-point win over a Washington team that fell to 3-5, and the Eagles trailed 14–3 in the second quarter of the contest before they rallied back and accumulated a 38-24 lead late in the fourth quarter. Additionally, ESPN stats showed on Monday afternoon that no quarterback had thrown more interceptions this season than Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts (eight) as of that time. 

With all that said, the 7-1 Eagles will begin November with the NFL's best overall record. The 5-2 Dallas Cowboys are second behind Philadelphia in the NFC East standings. 

"I told the team this after the win today: One of the hardest things in the NFL with the length of the season, and the grind of the season is being the same person every day, regardless of it’s a walkthrough in Week 1, a walkthrough in Week 8, a walkthrough in Week 9, a walkthrough in Week 15, treating it all the same," Sirianni continued. "Same thing with meetings. When you’re tired, that you have the attention to detail in meetings that you had when you were fresh." 

The Eagles next host the Cowboys this coming Sunday before Philadelphia's bye. As of Monday afternoon, OddsChecker listed Philadelphia as a three-point favorite against Dallas, and that same outlet had the Eagles at +600 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII this coming February.
