Eagles' Jalen Hurts ready to compete for starting job

The Philadelphia Eagles temporarily made 2020 rookie Jalen Hurts their starting quarterback of the offseason by officially trading Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in March. Philadelphia then generated headlines by signing Super Bowl XLVII Most Valuable Player Joe Flacco later that month, and head coach Nick Sirianni has suggested Hurts and Flacco will compete for QB1 honors this summer.

Hurts sounded ready for the challenge when speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

"No one is above that," Hurts said about a potential upcoming training camp battle, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "Everybody’s got to go to work. Rent is due every day. It’s always been that way for me. Always been a get better mentality every day. Grow every day, be a better leader every day, be a better quarterback every day. When that rent’s due, I don’t plan on missing payments."

Earlier this week, Pro Football Focus analyst and former QB Bruce Gradkowski named Hurts the NFL's second-worst starting signal-caller behind only Drew Lock of the Denver Broncos. Teddy Bridgewater joined the Broncos from the Carolina Panthers ahead of the NFL Draft and could leapfrog Luck on Denver's depth chart before Week 1 of the upcoming campaign.
