Eagles' Jason Kelce not motivated by Super Bowl revenge

Monday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles is one of the most anticipated games of the 2023 NFL regular season. Not only because it features two of the best teams in the NFL, but also because it is a rematch of last year's Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won.

If you are expecting the Eagles to be coming into the game motivated by revenge, however, you might want to stay away from center Jason Kelce.

Kelce said this week that last year's Super Bowl result has no bearing on his motivation for Monday's game. If anything, he is more motivated to try and simply defeat his brother (Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce) and former head coach (Andy Reid), both of whom he has never beaten in an NFL game before.

From ESPN:

"I'm motivated to win the game. I don't need the Super Bowl [loss] to motivate me to beat my brother, or [his former coach] Andy Reid. I've never beaten them in my career. I'm more motivated maybe by that," he said. "I don't buy into Super Bowl revenge games. Each season is different . This team is not the same, that team is not the same. Nothing that happens on Monday night is going to at all change or make anything different about what happened last year."

He is right. Both teams are completely different, and even if they weren't, a Week 11 win in the regular season is in no way comparable to a Super Bowl victory. This goes double given the fact that both teams are near-locks to make the playoffs this season and probably be the No. 1 seeds with bye weeks. There's a decent chance both teams find their way into the big game again.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl 38-35, thanks to a late field goal that was set up by a holding penalty on Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

Jason Kelce is 0-4 in his career against the Chiefs and is looking to snap that streak on Monday.

The Chiefs are 7-2 and occupying the top spot in the AFC standings while the 8-1 Eagles are leading the NFC entering the week.
