Eagles' Jason Peters to undergo season-ending toe surgery

Things just got a little more difficult for Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts as he prepares to make his first career start versus the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

As Tim McManus noted for ESPN, veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters will miss the rest of the regular season and undergo toe surgery to repair a lingering problem that's bothered him this fall.

Peters shifted from left tackle to right guard for Philadelphia's last two contests, losses to the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers, in an attempt to play through what McManus described as a broken and dislocated toe. With the Eagles sitting at 3-8-1 and in need of more than just wins to catch the New York Giants and Washington Football Team (both 5-7 heading into Week 14) in the NFC East race, Peters is calling it a season.

It's possible Peters has played his last game with the Eagles and in the NFL.

Selected to nine Pro-Bowl squads throughout his career, Peters turns 39 years old in January at a time when the Eagles appear on the verge of a roster restructuring. Back in May, reports emerged that Peters turned offers down from other clubs so he could sign a team-friendly deal to stay with the Eagles.
