Well, this is a curveball. Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Eagles signed LB Myles Jack. The former Jaguars LB has informed the team today that he actually plans to retire.

Myles Jack retiring from the NFL

Myles Jack was a second-round pick with the Jacksonville Jaguars once upon a time. Despite gradually declining since then, he still started 13 games last year, racking up 104 total tackles in the process.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, especially after Jack just committed himself to the team for the 2023 season. However, after a seven-year career, you can’t blame him for not wanting to put his body through another season of bangs and bruises, especially if he isn’t going to be given the starting role.

His time in Philadelphia wasn’t exactly explosive. He flew under the radar for the most part during Training Camp practices and preseason games.

What next for the Eagles?

The Eagles still have Zach Cunningham, Nicholas Morrow, and Christian Elliss alongside Nakobe Dean in the linebacker corps. If it was clear that Cunningham was going to beat out Myles Jack and thoughts of retirement had already been in his head, the decision to commit to that instead would have probably seemed easier to him.

Either way, his Eagles career now rivals that of Frank Gore.

Legendary.
