The Philadelphia Eagles badly need help at safety. They tried plugging the hole by swinging a trade with the Tennessee Titans for Kevin Byard at the deadline in October, but Byard struggled. The Eagles recently released him.

The good news for Philadelphia is that it has a decent amount of cap room to play with heading into free agency, so you can bet that it will try to address the safety position in the coming weeks.

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports thinks Philly is a fit for Justin Simmons, who was recently cut by the Denver Broncos.

Simmons, who played his collegiate football at Boston College, was selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He became a starter in his sophomore campaign, registering 69 tackles, a sack, a couple of interceptions, five passes defended and a defensive touchdown that season.

Over the next several seasons, Simmons established himself as one of the best safeties in football, and in 2020, he made his first trip to the Pro Bowl after racking up 96 tackles, five picks, a fumble recovery and nine passes defended.

After another strong year in 2021, Simmons proceeded to lead the league with six interceptions in 2022 to go along with 69 tackles, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and seven passes defended.

This past season, the 30-year-old earned his second Pro Bowl nod after finishing with 70 tackles, a sack, three picks, a pair of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.

Simmons has also notched Second-Team All-Pro honors four times and has achieved that feat each of the last three yeaers.

The Manassas, Va. native is one of the best safeties available, and it would certainly behoove the Eagles to add him.

After all, Philadelphia finished 31st in pass defense this past season.
