Philadelphia Eagles' new wide receiver Parris Campbell has high expectations for his old and new running back teammate, Saquon Barkley.
Campbell projects that Barkley will go off in 2024 and ultimately prove why he is the league's top running back.
"I think he's going to show people why he's the best running back in the league," Campbell said in a recent interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer's Olivia Reiner. "I know there's a bunch of debate between him and Christian McCaffrey. And don't get me wrong, McCaffrey's by far one of the best running backs in the league. But being able to see Saquon up close and personal, being in the same locker room, on the same team, man, he's a different guy when he's on that field, honestly. And running behind that offensive line that we have, I think it's going to be pretty scary for defenses.
"You pair that with Jalen (Hurts) and the things he can do with his feet, just as far as extending plays, getting outside the pocket, I'm sure there will be some type of read-option game that we go on and RPO stuff that'll happen. So just the possibilities of it are endless."
The Eagles made a surprising big splash in NFL free agency when they signed Barkley to a three-year deal worth up to $46.75 million with $26 million guaranteed.
Barkley replaces D'Andre Swift as the Eagles' top running back and it's clear Nick Sirianni plans to use him a lot given his hefty contract.
The former New York Giants running back has notched over 1,000 total rushing yards in four of his six NFL seasons. And he would have eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards for the Giants last fall had he not missed three games due to a high ankle sprain or had a better offensive line.
Still, he finished 2023 running for 962 yards and six touchdowns and added another 280 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving.
He now joins an offensive line in Philly that features some of the league's best blockers in Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson, which means he should have no issue meeting Campbell's expectations.
