Eagles QB Joe Flacco OK with Ravens WR Marquise Brown wearing No. 5

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown raised eyebrows last month when he announced he was taking advantage of the new NFL rule that allows receivers and other players to switch to single-digit jersey numbers starting with the 2021 season and changing to No. 5. Current Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Joe Flacco rocked that same number with the Ravens when he earned Super Bowl XLVII Most Valuable Player honors, and some suggested Brown's decision was disrespectful to Flacco and the QB's legacy.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Flacco told Baltimore sports radio station 105.7 The Fan on Monday he isn't at all bothered by Brown's use of the No. 5.

"I think that’s all a bunch of crap," Flacco explained. "Numbers are numbers, man. They’re all up for. . . . It’s all fair game. . . . It’s just a number and all that."

Flacco was the last Baltimore player to wear No. 5 in a regular-season or postseason game. He was traded to the Denver Broncos in February 2019 after he lost his starting job to Lamar Jackson during Jackson's rookie campaign. One imagines Flacco could eventually have his number retired by the Ravens, but Brown may have something to say about that during the remainder of his tenure with the club.
