Eagles RT Lane Johnson looking to play for two more seasons

Lane Johnson is not your average right tackle. He wears dog masks, sings Christmas songs, and he recently announced he'd like to play two more years.

According to Spotrac.com Johnson is signed through 2025 and will make more than $30M over the next two seasons. He's due nearly $16M in 2025, but the contract is not guaranteed.

Since 2013, the Eagles are 12-21 without Johnson in their lineup. Hockey players would kill for a 'plus/minus' grade like that. He and Jason Kelce have been critical to the team's success.

Johnson has missed time for a variety of reasons. Aside from a variety of injuries, Johnson was suspended for four games in 2014 and 10 games in 2016 for PED use. Anxiety and depression concerns forced him to miss three games in 2021.

Through it all, Johnson has continued to play at a high level. He hasn't given up a sack all year; in fact, according to Pro Football Focus, he hasn't given up a sack since 2020. Whenever Johnson decides to leave, Philadelphia will have some big shoes to fill.

There is no heir apparent for the 32-year-old right tackle on the Eagles' roster right now. Jack Driscoll is listed as the back-up right tackle, but he's played all over the offensive line. He's played well and could leave for free agency in 2023.

Johnson's replacement probably isn't on the team yet. The Eagles have the Saints' first-round pick in next year's draft. Now that the team doesn't seem to need a quarterback, don't be surprised if they use it to bring in the next Lane Johnson.
