Eagles star was offended by a compliment ahead of 2013 NFL Draft

A two-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl Champion, Lane Johnson has already established himself as an all-time Philadelphia Eagle. However, before the Eagles selected Johnson in the 2013 NFL Draft, the standout tackle felt disrespected, even by compliments.

Speaking with Zach Berman and Bo Wolf of The Athletic, Johnson's agent Ken Sarnoff recently revealed that Johnson was enraged ahead of the draft after then-Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson compared him to Anthony Castonzo.

"Man, I will kill that motherf----- for disrespecting me like that," Johnson said. "(Castonzo) can't hold my f-----' jock."

Castonzo, selected 22nd overall by the Colts in the 2011 NFL Draft, had an impressive 10-year career in the NFL, starting 144 games for Indianapolis. However, Johnson had loftier goals.

Ultimately, Johnson went to the Eagles at No. 4, 18 spots higher than Castonzo. Now, 10 seasons later, Johnson is still playing at an elite level. Last season, Johnson started 15 games for the Eagles and ranked as the fifth-best tackle in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.

For most of his career, Johnson has been the picture of stability wherever the Eagles have needed him. Since the 2013 season, the 32-year-old has started 127 regular-season games and 10 postseason tilts donning midnight green.

Luckily for the Eagles, Johnson is locked up through 2027. Johnson restructured his deal with the Eagles in March but actually received a raise from the team. Philly added a season to Johnson's four-year, $80 million contract, including $30 million in guaranteed cash.
