While wide receiver may not be a pressing need for the Philadelphia Eagles, they could certainly use some depth behind A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith.

That’s why Garrett Podell of CBS Sports thinks the Eagles could pursue Cincinnati Bengals wide out Tyler Boyd in free agency next month.

Boyd may end up being the odd man out in Cincinnati, as the Bengals’ top priority will be retaining Tee Higgins. Plus, they also need to worry about paying Ja’Marr Chase for the future.

While Cincy has plenty of cap space, it may decide that paying three receivers sizeable salaries may not be the most economical use of its resources, so it may very well allow Boyd to walk this offseason.

Enter Philadelphia, a team that could definitely stand to add a No. 3 receiver to make life easier for Jalen Hurts, who took a rather significant step back in 2023.

Boyd played in every game this past season, catching 67 passes for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns in spite of being the Bengals’ tertiary option behind Chase and Higgins.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Boyd posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019, topping out at 1,046 yards in the latter campaign.

He has not registered that type of production ever since, but he has tallied 800 yards twice and has been a very consistent member of the Bengals’ receiving corps.

Boyd could slide in alongside of Brown and Smith much like he has done with Chase and Higgins the past several years.

We’ll see if the Eagles do in fact make a play for Boyd in free agency.
