The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, and wide receiver A.J. Brown dropped a hot take on the matter.
Sour grapes or not, Brown believes the NFL should do away with Monday Night Football. He doesn’t believe it provides players with ample time to recover from the beating they take during the game, and he’s vocalizing his opinion on the matter.
“Right after the game, you only have a certain amount of time for your body to recover. … I think they should take MNF out,” Brown said, via DraftKings per Dov Kleiman. “I know it’s cool, but to turn around after is very difficult. Especially when banged up.”
Alas, it’s tough to fault Brown for anything in 2023. His play on the field has been incredible, as he’s truly staked his claim to being one of the NFL’s two or three best wide receivers. Still, not even he has the power to sway the NFL into moving away from Monday Night Football.
As long as he’s with the Eagles, Brown will have plenty of primetime games. Many of them coming on Monday night. It’s something he’ll have to continue to live with moving forward.
Nevertheless, the sting of defeat was still fresh in Brown’s mind when he made his comment. It was the third defeat in a row for Philadelphia, but the first of the trio that was a close one.
Only a month ago, the Eagles seemed destined to be the No. 1 seed in the post season. Now, following losses to the 49ers, Cowboys and Seahawks, it’s a battle with Dallas to see which team wins the NFC East.
Jalen Hurts’ final pass of the game on Monday Night was an interception. He was trying to answer the Seahawks’ score with only a smattering of seconds to go. The Eagles defense buckled on a 92-yard TD drive. And the Philadelphia offense didn’t have a response. Hurts questioned the team’s commitment afterwards.
“I’ve been talking about execution all year,” Hurts said. “Being on the same page, everyone being on the same page. We didn’t execute. I don’t think we’re, we’re all, we’re committed enough. Just got to turn it around. You know, it’s a challenge that we have to embrace. Just continue to see it through.”
“It’s a matter of being on the same page. It takes everyone being all in, in all aspects. And it starts with me.”
One thing is for sure, winning will fix everything for Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles, Monday Night Football be damned. We’ll see if they can begin to right the ship on Christmas Day against the New York Giants.
